FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my child needs tutoring?
If your child is struggling with homework or beginning to lose confidence, it’s important to speak with their teacher early to understand how they’re performing. If concerns remain, a little extra support may help. Sue offers a free assessment to identify your child’s current level and recommend the most suitable next steps. Some students simply benefit from staying ahead with structured guidance; the choice is always yours, with no pressure and no obligation.
Will my child get homework ?
Homework is an important part of supporting progress, especially for reading students, but Sue keeps it manageable; usually around half an hour a week, depending on school workload. If your child struggles to complete their homework, just let Sue know so she can adjust and support them.
What is the cost of tuition?
Each session lasts 60 minutes, with discounts available for block bookings. Sue’s tuition is high quality and competitively priced. Feel free to get in touch for full details.
How can I support my child’s progress?
To help your child get the most from their tutoring, ensure they attend sessions regularly and complete their weekly homework. Consistency is key to steady progress. If you ever have concerns about their work or development, simply let Sue know so she can adjust the support as needed.
What times are the lessons held?
Sue offers a range of after-school lesson times from Monday to Thursday, as well as Saturday mornings, making it easy to find a slot that fits your routine. Sessions run from 4pm to 7pm during the week (Friday closed) and Saturday morning only. If you need assistance outside teaching hours, please feel free to get in touch.
How long is each lesson?
Lessons are 60 minutes long, with most students attending once a week and older learners sometimes choosing additional sessions. Even younger children thrive in this format, as their time is broken into short, engaging activities that keep them focused and motivated.
Will my child’s work improve and how long will it take?
Children make the best progress when support is consistent at school, at home and in their tutoring sessions. Weekly attendance and completing homework naturally lead to improved skills and growing confidence. After the initial assessment, Sue will outline how long tuition may be beneficial and will monitor progress through ongoing assessment with regular feedback for parents. There’s no contract or long-term commitment, if you need to pause or stop sessions, just provide one week’s notice.
What subjects do you teach?
Sue supports students across Reading, Writing, Spelling, Comprehension, English and Maths from Primary through to Secondary. She also provides targeted preparation for Grammar School entrance tests, end-of-year exams and GCSE English and Maths.
Do you help prepare students for school exams?
While some parents seek help with day-to-day learning, most come to support their child in achieving stronger exam results. Sue provides focused preparation for Grammar School entrance tests, end-of-year exams and GCSE Maths and English. To give your child the best chance of success, it’s important to start well before exam season.
Do you support home educated children?
Yes. Sue works regularly with home educated children and teaches during the school day. She provides structured support in both maths and English, adapting lessons to suit each child’s level, pace and learning style. Home education is becoming more common, and many families use tutoring to add structure, confidence and continuity to their child’s learning.
Why should I choose you over other tutors?
I am a fully qualified teacher and private tutor with over 20 years’ experience teaching children aged 6 to 16. I hold an enhanced DBS check, full teaching qualifications and current first aid training.
I take a patient, practical approach to learning, adapting my teaching to each child. Most pupils show clear progress within half a term and often make very strong progress over a full term. Parents notice the difference and so do their children.
You can be confident that your child is in safe, experienced hands. If you have any questions or would like to talk things through, please get in touch.
